Consultations: What To Expect

We understand your concerns about your health, and will do our best to make you feel at ease.

Upon arrival at 145 Harley Street, the receptionist will direct you to Mr Wareing’s Clinic. Here, new patients will be asked to complete a registration form. Follow up patients can take this opportunity to ensure that we hold accurate information (eg: address, telephone numbers etc.)

Your initial appointment with Mr Wareing will last about 30 minutes and during this time he will take a thorough history and undertake a clinical examination. The examination will vary according to the nature of your consultation and certain specialized investigations may be performed. Because of the high standard of equipment available at the clinic, a thorough assessment can usually be achieved in this initial appointment, saving you valuable time and limiting the need for follow up appointments. Special investigations performed at the time of the appointment may include an audiogram or tympanometry, ear microscopy or ear suction, rigid or flexible nasal or laryngopharyngeal endoscopy and videostroboscopy. All are undertaken by Mr Wareing himself.

Sometimes further tests are necessary, such as x-rays, blood tests, MRI scans, CT scans, Ultrasound scans or allergy testing. The majority of tests are performed within the London Clinic and can usually be performed within 24 hours. Patients suffering from claustrophobia (a well recognised problem with MRI scans) are well catered for, with options including an Open MRI scanner or the Upright MRI scanner.

For complex balance assessments (which may take up to three hours to perform) or complex audiology tests, further arrangements will be made (see under ‘Investigations’.)

Please note that hearing tests on children aged 4 or under are not usually possible at the Clinic, and children of this age seeing Mr Wareing are referred to a Paediatric Audiologist for a hearing test. This can be arranged in advance prior to the appointment (see under ‘Investigations’.)

Results of most tests are available within 48 hours and follow up appointments are arranged accordingly. Mr Wareing has a close relationship with the diagnostic departments within The London Clinic, facilitating the highest standards of medical care by allowing discussion of results at Consultant level.

Follow up appointments are tailored to clinical need and will vary in length. In the interests of the patient we aim to complete treatment as quickly as possible and in the fewest sessions possible.
